Keeping
the Conversation Fresh:
Change
the Team Dynamics
Mix
Teams
If
there are multiple teams in operation across a district or within
a school, then consider mixing up the teams. This gives teachers an
opportunity to meet others, hear new perspectives, and learn new information.
Here are some possible ways to mix and match teams:
-
Mix
teams from different grade clusters within a school to talk about
articulation of the curriculum across the grades.
-
Mix
content area teams at the middle or high school. For example, mix
English language arts teachers with any of the content area teachers
to discuss literacy strategies, mix science and mathematics teachers
to discuss data gathering and analysis, or mix teachers of music
and art with content area teachers.
-
Mix
teams from different schools.
Invite
an Expert
When
experts are invited to attend a team meeting they can infuse information
into the discussion that raises the level of the conversation about
curriculum, instruction, assessment, and technology. Experts can be
drawn from the following areas:
-
External
consultants (from a regional center, university, professional development
organization)
-
Local
experts (administrators, supervisors, coordinators, teachers)
-
Recent
student graduates
-
Technology
gurus
